School and home are active agencies of education. The role of school is manifold. Similarly home plays profound role during initial stages of life. So a sound, healthy relationship between school and home is essential for development of a balanced personality.

The school and home impart education to the child. If the co-operation between two agencies can be established, it will promote more educational facilities.

It can be established through the following activities organizing in the school.

1. Parent-Teacher Association:

ADVERTISEMENTS:

The chief instrument of bringing the school and home closer to each other is the formation of Parent-Teacher-Association. Such an association should be organized in every school, twice or thrice a year. The problems of the children at home and school may be discussed with parents. Their suggestions for the improvement of the school should be implemented according to the resources of the school.

2. Parents’ Day:

Once a year a day of the school programmes should be set apart for inviting the parents of the students to the school. On this occasion, they should be taken round the school and shown what is actually going on in the school. Problems of individual children and the problems of the school may also be discussed with parents and their co-operation should be sought in the solution of those problems.

3. Visiting Teacher:

ADVERTISEMENTS:

The teachers may sometimes visit the homes of the pupils after school hours. Through, such visits parents may be informed about the educational progress of their children in the class and their general behavior at school. The teacher should know the background of the pupils and finding causes of their peculiar problems. Thus, the two great factors, the school and the home, influence the life of the child.

4. Inviting Parents to School Functions:

Parents should be invited to the school at various functions organized by the school. These functions are the Parents’ Day, the Prize Distribution Day, celebration of Independence Day, Annual Function Day of the schools, etc. Such occasions encourage parents to associate themselves with the work and ideals of the school.

5. Reports on the Work and Progress of Children:

ADVERTISEMENTS:

Another important means of securing cooperation between school and home is that of sending regularly the progress reports of the students to the parents concerned, on each occasion when an assessment is made. The cumulative record of each pupil maintained in the school should also be sent to the parent for information. The child promoted from one class to the next higher class should be reported.

This enables the parents to know in detail about the physical, academic, social and moral development of their children at school. This cooperation between the school and the home should be brought about. Other measures also can contribute much towards the progress and education of the children.
