Central Board of Secondary Education & Examination Reforms

The Central Board of Secondary Education has designed a new pattern of examination with a purpose to improve both the quality of testing and standard of teaching. The pattern of examination envisages the following changes:

1. A bright student may be allowed to sit for the Board’s examination, if he/she so wishes, a year earlier than the time when he/she should normally take the examination provided the Head of the institution concerned certifies that the progress of the candidate during the academic session preceding the examination had been out standing.

2. Anyone desiring to improve his Grade in any subject at the Secondary School Examination will be permitted to reappear in it at the next examination.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

3. Under this scheme, no candidate will be declared pass or fail. No overall Grade will be given for the purpose of certification. The Certification will indicate the achievement of the pupil in terms of Grades in each subject.

4. The result of the secondary school examination will be declared in terms of grades for each subject on a five-point scale instead of marks and divisions.

5. The Board will conduct Secondary School Examination at the end of Class X. In order to be eligible for the examination, the student should have obtained at least Grade 4 in third language, work Experience, Healthy and Physical Education.

6. Continuous evaluation of the student’s growth by the teachers. For third language, work experience and community service, health and physical education, the assessment will be internal. Evaluation will be continuous and the schools will maintain a cumulative record of each pupil which would be open the schools concerned.
