Agriculture has been the core element of the Tenth Plan. Hence, fostering rapid and sustained agricultural growth has been a priority agenda for the plan. The total allocation has been Rs. 58,933 crore for agriculture and allied activities.
A nation action plan has been conceived to increase agricultural productivity and double food production by 2011 -12. Broad features of the agricultural development under the Plan include : sustainable development of land and water resources, improvement in the infrastructural facilities, dissemination of agricultural technology, attracting capital flow in agriculture sector, creating additional irrigation potential of 15.61 m. ha, boosting up agricultural diversification, improving agricultural marketing and pricing systems, liberalising agritrading, agriindustry and exports, encouraging contract farming and permitting leasing in and leasing out of agriculture lands.
