Notes on E xpansion of Democracy after the End of Second World War in 1945

After the end of Second World War in 1945, the world witnessed a wave of democratisation. Many colonies in Asia and Africa became independent after the War.

The people in these countries did not only want to get rid of their colonial masters, they also wished to choose their future leaders.

This was continued till 1962. These countries included India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka etc. and at one time their strength went up to 36.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

Most of these countries remained democracies thereafter, but in some countries democratic governments were overthrown and non-democratic governments were established.
