Herbert Spencer himself found certain points wherein analogy between the State and organism cannot be found. He himself points out the following cases where both show a lot of dissimilarity:

1.An organism is concrete whereas the state is discrete. It means that cells and organs constituting an organism are closely integrated and inseparably interconnected.

Each part or cell is closely linked up with the other. Organism is thus a compact whole. The individuals living in state have independent and separate existence of their own. They are not huddled together into a single compact unit.

2.There is a common centre of consciousness in the case of an organism. It is the brain and the nervous system which controls all action of the various parts of the organism.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

But in the case of the state there is no central nerve system as such, all individuals composing the state have their own consciousness by virtue of which they can think and act independently.

3.Jellinek points out that state does not pass through a similar process of birth, growth, decay and death. In fact a state once born hardly dies as state. It is a continuity. It endures endlessly.

4.Cells and organs of an organism are solely dependent upon the whole. They die if removed from the parent body. On the other hand, the individual does not die if he leaves his state; he can live without the state.

He is a living entity with his own will and a personality independently to the state while cells and organs of an organism have no such independent will or personality or separate life.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

5.In the individual organism, the laws of evolution are followed intuitionally. The growth of the state, however, is in a large measure capable of conscious direction and control.

The state is a human institution. Its development depends upon human will and action.

6.With the growth of an organism, the controlling power of the whole over the parts gradually increases. During infancy a man has no contr61 over his various organs but as he grows to manhood he acquires greater control over his organs. The case is otherwise when the state attains development.

The development of the state means an extension of the,.freedom of the individuals who are the component parts of the state.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

7.Reproduction of an organism is the result of union of two opposite sexes but in the case of the state, no such thing happens.

8.Body of one organism is not connected with the other. Every individual organism is a complete system of life by itself. But in the case of the state, it consists of millions of separate and distinct individuals.
