The chemical bond formed by the sharing of electrons between two atoms is known as a covalent bond. The sharing of electrons takes place in such a way that each atom in the resulting molecule gets a stable configuration.

A covalent bond is formed when both the reacting atoms need electrons to achieve a stable configuration. Usually, when a non-metal combines with another non-metal, sharing of electrons takes place between their atoms and a covalent bond is formed. The bond formed between the atoms of the same element is a covalent bond.
