There are various types of forms :

(a) On the basis of operation—from the point of view of operation, forms are classified into purchase forms, material forms and application forms.

(b) On the basis of use —from the point of view of use, there are two types of forms called internal forms and external forms. Internal forms are those forms, which are used by different departments of the organisation: The examples of internal use forms are report forms, material transfer forms and requisition forms. The forms, which establish external contact with the customers and creditors, are called external forms. The examples of external forms are invoices, cheques and purchase orders.

(c) On the basis of copies—from the number of copies point of view there are two types of forms called single copy forms and multiple copy forms. The forms, which are complete in themselves, are called single use forms and the forms, which are prepared in a number of copies, are called multiple copy forms.
