What are the factors that determine the span of control in an office ?

The number of people directed or managed effectively by a single executive is called span of control or management. While determining the number of persons that one executive can manage depends on the following factors:

(a) The skill and the capacity of the executive.

(b) The skill and the capacity of the subordinates.

(c) The operational stability because a dynamic situation require closer control and co-ordination.

(d) Types of operation because a specialised mass production factory requires a lesser span.
