Office means a place where some business is carried on. A typical office in 1941 was confined to a place where clerical work is performed to attain the objective of the enterprise as a whole. So the official scene in 1940 were limited to small volume of work led by few clerks. Office work was performed manually without the help of mechanical devices. The only machine used in office was typewriter. As the organisation in those days was small, its positions were called Munim (accountant), khjanchi (cashier). Almirahs were used as filing equipments.

An office in 2011 faces a lot of challenges and tasks because there is increased volume of paper work. Increased volume of paper work has resulted automation and mechanisation. type writers are replaced by computer and many other mechanical devices are developed. Manual filing has been replaced and many more improved methods of filing are in use. An office in 2011 faces the challenges of reducing paper work, complying with the changing government rules and regulation, reduction of costs and meeting the needs of mechanisation.
