The term antitranspirant is used to designate any material applied to plants for the purpose retarding transpiration. Some of the main anti transparent are colorless plastics, silicone oil, lo viscosity wax, phenyl mercuric acetate, abscisic acid, CO, etc. Colorless plastics, silicone ils and lo viscosity waxes etc constitute one group as these are spread on the leaves with the object of forming a film pcrmlable to oxygen and carbondioxide but not to water.

Carbondioxidc is an effective anti- transparent:

A little rise in C02 concentration from the natural 0.02% to 0.05% induces partial closure of stomata. To Check transpiration in drought condition, dry ice (solid Co2) is being spread in the field none a days. The advantage of antitranspring substances is to reduce the transpiration rate without adversely affecting exchange of gases during photosynthesis, respiration and growth. The application of antitranspirants is beneficial to agriculturists and also to nature.
