The International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature was established in 1898. This Commission framed the following rules of nomenclature:

(i) The animals which are enlisted in the System Nature tenth edition, 1785, should not be recognized for scientific naming again.

(ii) The name should be binomial or trinomial which denotes species and sub-species respectively.

(iii) The scientific names must be in Latin or Latinized names or Greek.

(iv) The genus name should be single name and must begin with capital letter and the name of the species with small letter.

(v) The genus and species name should be underlined.

(vi) New species should be preserved before naming such specimens are called type specimen.

(vii) The name of the family can be constructed suffixing-idea and name sub-family by suffix inae to the root name of the genus.
