What is the need for animal classification?

There is great diversity of animals some are useful to us whereas others are harmful. Some may be disease causing while others may be crop destructing. As there is great inter relationship between man and animals, it is necessary to classify them. The importance of classification is as follows.

(i) It helps biologists to get idea of organisms belonging to different groups, about their morphology and and anatomy etc.

(ii) It is a means of storing information about different kinds of animals.

(iii) It helps to exchange the information regarding organisms.

(iv) It helps to establish natural relationship among organisms.
