What are the Characteristics of Trygon?

The characteristics of Trygon are given below:

(1) Found usually laying on the sea bottom.

(2) Carnivorous and feeds on small fishes molluscas etc.

(3) Commonly known as string ray or whip tailed ray.

(4) Body is flat disc like.

(5) Pectoral fins are united with the head.

(6) Mouth and 5 pairs of gill slits are ventral in position.

(7) Spiracles are present behind the eyes on dorsal side.

(8) Tail is long slender, whip like, terminating in small caudal fin and armed with a sharp serrated poisonous spine or sting. Sting is painful to man.

(9) Claspers are present near the pelvic fin of male.

(10) Viviparous, carnivorous feed on small fishes.
