Write a short note on Ribosomes

Some of the essentials facts on Ribosomes are:-

(i) Ribisomes are dense rounded granules present in the cytoplasm of both prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells.

(ii) The unit of their measurement is known as ‘S’ unit or Svedberg unit.

(iii) 80S ribosomes are larger and found in eukaryotic cells.

(iv) 70S ribosomes are smaller and found in prokaryotic cells.

(v) Each ribosome has two sub-units.

(vi) The main functions of ribosome are protein synthesis and thus are known as protein factories of the cell.
