Peroxisomes are single membrane microbodies. These are ovoid to spherical structures of 0.2µ-1.2µ in diameter. They contain of main enzymes- peroxidases, oxidases and catalases in the opaque core. These enzymes oxidize various types of substances by molecular O2 to form hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). Subsequently H2O2 oxidises different cellular organic substance by enzyme catalase. Peroxidases helps the call in detoxification.
