The trophozoite form of E.histalytica is the most active, feeding form which is pathogenic. The undulating membrane is an adoptive organelle for the locomotion in viscous fluid medium.

In the centre of each chloroplast is present a structure is called pyronoid which is surrounded by a shell of paramylum . paramylum is a glycoline like carbohydrate. It is also finding in the cytoplasm as large granules. It arises at the posterior end of the cell from basal body. It runs antiriorwards attached to pellicle throughout the length of the body and becomes free at its anderior end.

A burst of research on viruses of E. histolytica stem from a series. They hypothesized two separate polyhedral and filamentous viral strains within E. histolytica that caused cell lysis.

Perhaps the most novel observation was that two kinds of viral strains existed, and that within one type of amoeba the polyhedral strain had no detrimental effect but led to cell lysis in other strains. Although Mattern et al. attempted to explore the possibility that these protozoal viruses could function like bacteriophages, they find no significant changes in Entamoeba histolytica virulence when infected by viruses.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

Unfortunately no newer research seems to have been conducted on this species since The osmotic concentration of body protoplasm equals to that of the fluid of the host and hence no contractile vacuole is needed for osmoregulation.
