Flamingo

It is a long-legged, long-necked bird with a heavy bill turned downward. It is found all over India. Flamingos bury their heads into the slush, and turn it upside down while looking for food in the lake water. They live in flocks. They become mature in two years. They are monogamous.

Common Peacock or Mayur

It has been rightly given the status of our National Bird because of its gorgeous plumage and dancing style. Feathers overlying the tail are spread out like a fan. It lives in dense jungle.

Grey Heron

This bird can be seen near shallow waters. It has a long neck and pointed beak which cables it to catch fish.

Bar-headed Goose

It breeds in upper lakes of Ladakh. It is now an endangered species. This water bird files to the Indian plains during winter. Malabar Pied Hornbill This bird is popularly known as dhanesh. It is a fruit-eater, with a heavy beak. In addition to the above-mentioned birds, you may also find bronze winged jacana, sarus crane, little blue kingfisher, open billed stork, etc., near the lacks. Jungle bush quail, however, can found in dry open forests. You might also have heard of the great Indian bustard found in Rajasthan deserts. It is the world’s heaviest (21 kg) flying bird.
