What is the difference between Rhizome and Corm?

Rhizome

1. Underground stem is modified into horizontal, dorsiventarally flat and branched structure.

2. Nodes and internodes are distinct, nodes are elongated.

3. Adventitious roots develop from ventral surface to keep it horizontal.

Example: Zingiber.

Corm:

1. Underground stem is modified into a vertical, swollen and unbranched structure .

2. Nodes and internodes are not distinct, nodes are condensed.

3. Adventitious roots develop from all over the surface to keep it vertical.

Example: Amorphophalus.
