Phylloclade:

1. It is an aerial stem or branch modification.

2. Here the stem is modified into a flat or cylindrical, succulent and green structure.

3. It arises in the axil of the leaf which falls off, leaving a scar.

4. It bears succession of nodes and internodes at long or short intervals.

Example: Opuntia, Casuarina.

Cladode:

1. It is an aerial branch modification.

2. Here the branch is also modified into a succulent, green, flat or cylindrical or leaf like structure.

3. May appear in cluster or singly in the axil of scale leaf.

4. It is a phylloclade of mostly one or rarely two internodes only .

Example: Asparagus, Ruscus.
