Vinny Magalhaes is a Brazilian, a professional Mixed Martial Artist born on the 2nd of July, 1984. He participated at the Ultimate Fighter where Team Nogueira fought with Team Mir. Currently, he is the Champion of M-1 Global Light-Heavyweight.

His Mixed Martial Career

His instructors Royler Gracie and Vinicius Aieta promoted him to Black Belt on the stage after he won thirteen fights which ten of them were by submission and receiving two Gold medals at the World Jiu-Jitsu Championship in 2005 as Brown Belt. Recently, Vinny said that for some time he has been training in several grappling styles like the Sambo (mainly leg locks) and the Catch Wrestling.

As a Black belt in 2007 and in the division of the Super Heavy Weight, he became the first Champion of the Jiu-Jitsu No Gi.

Vinny presented an amazing performance in 2009 in the most celebrated Grappling Contest in the World which is the ADCC Submission Wrestling World Championship. He won 2 bronze medals in the Under 99 kg Division and the Absolute Division. In the process of winning the Bronze medal, he won the world champion of BJJ Rodrigo Cavaca in his weight level at the first round using the inverted Heel Hook, World Champion of 2003 ADCC and also two times Absolute World Champion of BJJ Marcio Cruz in the Quarter finals using the flying Armbar, the Brazilian Trial Winner of ADCC and also fellow Mixed Marital Art fighter Glover Teixeira in the third place match using the Armbar. However, he lost to the Champion Xande Ribeiro in the semi-finals by a razor edge judgment on points.

Going for the second bronze medal, he defeated the Absolute World Champion of the 2005 ADDC, Dean Lister because of the decision of the Judges and moved to the Quarter Finals. He fought against the two time NCAA fighter and the Mixed Martial Art Prospect Chris Weidman and defeated him using the Flying Armbar. This elevated him to the semi final to fight against Braulio Estima. However, he was defeated by points and Estima finally became the Absolute World Champion. For the third place match Vinny made use of his experience to defeat Gunnar Nelson to achieve a Takedown in final seconds of the extra-time. This gave him the second Bronze Medal in the ADCC competition.

Vinny competed in the division of 99kg and over in 2011. He defeated the reigning champ Fabricio Werdum in the final match by points and finished as divisional winner.

Vinny won the brother of Rashed Evans, Lance Evans after the former quitted due to rib injury in the round one of the match. He went ahead to defeat Jules Bruchez using the armbar at the first round of the match and excelled to the semis. Fighting Krzysztof Soszynski, he defeated him at the first round by armbar. He was defeated by Ryan Bader in the finals by a knockout.

In November 2010 Vinny’s first child Vitor was born. He’s married to Alliny Magalhaes.
