The man who made billiards a popular game in India and single – handedly put the country on the sports map was Michael Ferreira. He was born in Mumbai. He was so much swayed by Wilson Jones that he became his disciple.

In 1977, Michael Ferreira won for the first time, the Billiards World Championship in Melbourne. In the next year he became a record holder by grabbing 1149 points in Kolkata.

In addition to this, his performance put his name in the Guinness Book of World Records, which is still unbroken. In 1981, Ferreira became the World Champion for second time. Again, after two years, he was declared the World Champion in Malta.

By the dint of his talent and hard work he has registered his name in the list of great sportspersons of India. For his fantastic performance in billiards, the Indian government has honoured him with the Padma Bhutan. Four times billiards champion Michael Ferreira is also passionate about cars.
