Guram Gugenishvili was born 23th of July, 1986. He is a Georgian MMA who fights as a heavyweight in M-1 Global. Since 2009 he has been a mixed martial artist who has mostly fought in Russia, most especially in M-1 Global. He remains undefeated in his profession till date and has gotten most of his victories through submission. Currently he is the Heavyweight Champion of M-1 Global Western Europe and also the Heavyweight champion of M-1 Global.

Gugenishvili Early Career

Gugenishvili started his professional career in Mixed Martial Arts at M-1 Global organization making entrance in the Open Mix Fight at Donetsk, Ukraine. He fought Roman Bragin and defeated him using rear naked choke during the opening round. Though he won his fight, the organization couldn’t retain him, therefore he joined Makfight team which provided training facilities and hosted the competitions. In his next fight, Gugenishvili won Oleg Matveev through the rear naked choke again, but this time it was just 31 seconds. As a result of this resounding win Gugenishvili earned a place in M-1. During these events Gugenishvili was undefeated, winning two fights by the rear naked choke, also the third by a unanimous decision.

Gugenishvili was signed to join the championship competition of Western Europe of M-1 Global. His first match was against a fighter by name Jur Dekker. Gugenishvili won Dekker through the rear naked choke within some few seconds, precisely 36. Gugenishvili emerged at the semi-final during round 3 of the Eastern European Champion, even though he was at the Western Europe competition. His challenger Valery Scherbakov had to tap out within two minutes because of the punches he received from Gugenishvili.

The Western Europe champion ultimate final which was held at M-1 was where Gugenishvili faced fellow countryman Alexander Romaschenko. In yet another outstanding show, Gugenishvili got another rear naked choked, becoming champion of M-1 Global Western Europe. Given that Gugenishvili has become the Western European Champion, he was to face the Heavyweight champion of the Eastern Europe Maxim Grishin but before that the M-1 Global Ukraine Selections incident was planned before that championship fight. At the selections events Gugenishvili fought against Vladimir Gerasimchik with Gugenishvili emerging victorious again at the first round at the first minute, this time through a neck crank.

The next fight Gugenishvili had was for the title of the Heavyweight of M-1 Global. But one month before the competition, Maxim Grishin was compelled to depart because of knee injury that happened during a hand to hand battle in Ufa in a national championship. As a result, Kenny Garner the M-1 Selection Americas fought against Gugenishvili for that title. This battle occurred at the St. Petersburg tagged Guram verses Garner on 28th October, 2010. The fight was indeed a fierce one with Gugenishvili struggling with Garner but however forced Garner to faint via a guillotine choke. Winning by technical submission Gugenishvili became the first Heavyweight champion of M-1 Global.

On the 5th of March, 2011 Maxim Grishin contended for the title of Heavyweight of M-1 Global. However, Gugenishvili defeated him through submission during the first round.
