Aurobindo Ghost was born in 1872 in Kolkata. When he grew up, he passed his B.A. examination from Kolkata University, and then went to England and appeared at the I.C.S. examination there, in order to fulfill his father’s wish.

As he was a nationalist from his early years, he was not inclined to serve the British government. So he did not appear at the riding test which was a compulsory subject. Thus, he intentionally avoided the British job.

Aurobindo returned to India, and joined the terrorist movement. He edited the weekly Jugantar (Change of Age), and wrote many articles. He was charged with his complicity in terrorist activities by the British Government and jailed several times.

In order to avoid British surveillance, Aurobindo escaped to Pondicherry, and then ruled by the French. He continued his political activities from there. But in his later life, he became a saint and devoted his life in the welfare of the people. He came to be known as ‘Sri Aurobindo’. He passed away in 1950.
