The three phases of growth mentioned above viz., cell formation, cell elongation and cell maturation are characterized by the three aspects of growth namely, (i) an initial period of growth (growth initiation), (ii) a period of maximum growth (cell elongation) and a period of steady growth maintenance (cell maturation). These three (iii) periods of growth together constitute what is called the grand period of growth. This grand period of growth is of universal occurrence. Whether it is the growth of individual cell or a tissue or an organ or in an entire individual, grand period of growth can be observed.
