The course of human history involves a progressive development of the forces of production, a steady increase in man’s control over nature.
This is paralleled by a corresponding increase in man’s alienation, an increase which reaches its height in capitalist society. Alienation is a situation in which the creations of man appear to him as alien objects. They are seen as independent from their creator and invested with the power to control him.
