What are the main types of connective tissues?

Connective tissues are basically divided into three categories viz., connective tissue proper, Skeletal tissue and Fluid tissue (Vascular tissue). The cells of the connective tissue proper are immersed in a soft jelly like matrix chemically composed of carbohydrates linked to proteins. The connective tissues proper connect one tissue to another and form protective sheaths around organs.

Connective tissue proper is divided into five categories namely Areolar tissue, Adipose tissue, white fiberous tissue, Yellow elastic tissue and reticular tissue. In some cases only three are recognized namely Areolar tissue, fibrous tissue and adipose tissue.
