What are the conditions in which state succession takes place?

Succession takes place in the following conditions:

(a) A succession of government occurs when the government of a state is replaced with a new one.

(b) State succession occurs:

(i) When a state ceases to exist

(ii) A new state is formed within the territory of existing state

(iii) Territory is transformed from one state to another state.
