The distribution of rainfall depends on the following factors:
(1) Relief of the land.
(2) Direction of the moisture laden winds.
(3) The path of cyclonic depression.
According to the amount of rainfall India is divided into four regions :
(a) Regions of Heavy Rain (over 200 cms.): Western slopes of Western Ghats, Southern slopes of Eastern Himalayas.
(b) Regions of Moderate Rain (100-200 cms.): Middle Ganga Valley, Western Ghats, Madhya Pradesh.
(c) Regions of Scanty Rain (50-100 cms.): Upper Ganga Valley, eastern Rajasthan, parts of Punjab and Haryana.
(d) Regions of Poor Rain (less than 50 cms.): Parts of Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan.
