How to choose the correct methods of collecting data?

After analyzing the different methods, the basic question that creeps up in every mind in that which method is most suitably used in statistical enquiry.

Every method possesses its own pros and cons and suitability under different conditions. Therefore, for any statistical enquiry, the method of primary data being used depends on certain factors as:

(a) Degree of Accuracy:

Degree of accuracy is maximum in direct personal investigation while it is quite low for correspondent method.

(b) Area Covered:

If the area covered is not large, direct personal investigation’ appropriate. Contrary to this, if area covered is large mailed questionnaire should used.

(c) Availability of Resources:

If the investigator has enough resources at disposal, direct personal investigation is appropriate. Otherwise mailed question method should be used.
