Difference between Mitosis and Meiosis?

What is the difference between Mitosis and Meiosis? Both the daughter cells show genetic Similarly with the parent cell. The chromosome number remains constant. All the daughter cells are genetically different from parent cell. The chromosome number reduce t half.

What is the difference between Mitosis and Meiosis?

The difference between Mitosis and Meiosis are Mitosis occurs in meristematic cells whereas meiosis occurs in reproductive cells. In the former cell divides only once and produces two daughter cells having same chromosome number as in parent cell whereas in the later cell divides twice and produces four daughter cells, each containing half of the chromosome of parent cell.

What are the different stages of meiosis ?

It is the reductional cell division in which the chromosomes duplicate once but the cell divides twice. Hence, the result of meiosis is four haploid cells, which become the male or female gametes in case of animals and microspores (pollen) and megaspores in case of plants.

What are the significant differences between Mitosis and Meiosis ?

The significant differences between Mitosis and Meiosis are : It occurs in the vegetative or somatic cells whereas the latter occurs in the reproductive cells. After this division two daughter cells are produced in Mitosis but four daughter cells are produced after melotic division in meiosis.

What are the two important stages of Meiosis ?

Before the initiation of meiosis, there is an inter-phase stage just like mitosis in which chromosomes are duplicated. Meiotic division undergoes two successive nuclear divisions, so that four daughter cells are formed as a result of a complete division.

What is the significance of meiosis?

The significance of meiosis :- It maintains the same chromosome n umber in the sexually reproducing organisms. From a diploid cell, haploid gametes are produced which in turn fuse to form a diploid cell.
