The world number one in the women’s air rifle event, Anjali Bhagat is one of the shining stars in Indian sports. When she qualified for the final of the 10m women’s air rifle event in the 2000 Sydney Olympics, she was the first Indian to do so.

The 33-year-old Central Industrial Security Force Inspector has already won medals at the Commonwealth Championships in 1998 and 2001. Her favourite event is the 10 metre air rifle event.

At the Commonwealth Games in Manchester, Bhagwat and Shuma Shirur won the women’s 10m air rifle pairs gold. Bhagwat has also won the silver in the World Cups held at Atianta and Sydney.

Anjali Bhagwat’s career in shooting started in 1988. Her most memorable performances include a gold medal in 10 metre air rifle at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester. Having consistently scored between 398-399 in the European circuit she is now aiming to break the 400 mark Mumbai-based Anjali is an also an Arjuna award winner.
