Biotechnology as a supplementary tool can be used for modifying different crops genetically to increase the yield per hectare. This will easily meet out our food, fodder and fibre requirements. Use of such technology has made the crops more resistant to insects, pests and diseases. This will greatly reduce the dependence on insecticides. Genetically modified crops require less water as compared to other crops. This ultimately will reduce the cost of production and will help improve the environment. Biotechnology is poised to give benefit to both rich and poor farmers equally and is more environmentally safe and sustainable.
