Pleadings can be amended at any time. However, amendment can be permitted after the trial has commenced only if the party seeking amendment shows that the plea of diligence before the commencement of the trial.

When the amendment is allowed by Court, the concerned party shall incorporate the amendments in the pleading within 14 days from the date of order of the Court permitting amendment or within a date fixed by court. He will not be permitted to incorporate the amendment after the expiry of the above time unless the Court enlarges the time.

Rules 17 and 18 of Order VI which are omitted by Act 46 of 1999 were restored by Amendment Act 22 o 2002 and modified as stated above.
