The Directorate of Primary Education looks after the programmes and needs of primary education in the state. This Directorate is headed by the Director of Public Instructions (Primary)-D.P.I. (P). The D.P.L (P) is assisted by a Deputy Director, three Assistant Directors, one Accounts Officer and one Evaluation Officer. One Administrative Officer also assists the D.P.I. (P) in all matters concerning general administration. The main functions of the Directorate may be as under:

1. Deputy Director Establishment and Planning [D.D.E. (P)

The D.D.E. (P) deals with the transfers, promotions, seniority appointments, enquiries, complaints and other matters of primary education in the State. He is also the in charge of the planning wing of the Directorate. He is assisted by two Assistant Directors.

2. Deputy Director Policy and Examination D.D.P.E

He assists the D.P.E. (P) in policy formulation and implementation, school buildings; grant-in-aid to Private Primary recognised schools, up gradation of schools. He also deals with examinations and other miscellaneous tasks.

3. Administrative Officer

The service branch record and type-section are under his charge. He also deals with matters concerning B.P.E.O.’s.

4. Accounts Officer

This officer belongs to the Finance Department. He prepares the budget of Directorate of Primary Education. He also looks after loans and advances relating to the services branch of the D.P.I.(P).

5. Evaluation Officer (E.O.). He assists the D.D.P.E. and is also accountable to the Deputy Director (Evaluation) in the S.C.E.R.T. He also looks after the teacher training branch of the directorate.

6. Assistant Director Primary Education (A.D.P.E.)-I.

He looks after the Establishment branch II. He also deals with policy matters of the services branch.

He supervises the Establishment branch-I.
