Mustapha Kamal Pasha introduced radical re­forms in education. He realised that for the modernization of Turkey it was vital that the European system of education should be introduced in the country.

He made elementary education compulsory and provided books and equipments at the expense of the state. He suppressed the church schools (Madrassas) and secularized education.

A number of training schools were set for the teachers, who were imparted training along the western lines. He also established a law school in Angora to train requisite officials for the various departments of administration. Special attention was paid to technical and agricultural education.

He set up two agricultural high schools at Halkali and Angora. Government made liberal grants for the promotion of education. He introduced Latin alphabets which effected complete cultural revolution. It enabled him to impart education to Turkish people along European lines as well as to combat national ignorance.

Kamal encouraged the Turkish students and scholars to visit foreign countries to acquire higher education. Liberal scholarships were made available to brilliant students for higher education in western countries.
