As soon as the proposal of the Partition of Bengal was announced huge protest was raised throughout Bengal. Public meetings were held. Massive demonstrations took place.

When all the peaceful protests went into vain and Bengal was partitioned the movement took a different turn. People were no longer to be content with mere annulment of Partition.

They wanted now the end of the British rule. The Extremists now wanted a vigorous movement to expel the British from the country. And the revolutionaries made attempts on the life of the individual Englishmen.
