What is the Role of Government in Physical Development of Children?

Local Govt, can play a very important role as the key institutions to provide opportunities for young people to be active by way of making good budget provision for maintaining, developing and constructing play fields, swimming pools, gymnasiums, parks, sports and recreation centers. Following actives can be taken by the local Govt.:

1. Should include children and youths also while planning recreation programmes for the community.

2. Should ensure and see the physical environment of parks, recreation facilities and streets are safe and conducive for participation in play activities.

3. Should make appropriate lighting arrangements in parks, recreation centers and public places so that participation becomes safe after sunlight.

4. Should plan sports and recreation programmes for school children.

5. Should take up collaborative work to support schools to ensure enhanced opportunities for dual use of facilities.

6. Should place high priority on play activities in holidays and ensure adequate safety measures to avoid accidents and injuries.

7. Should provide and maintain hygienic and safe rest rooms, water fountains and recreation facilities for outdoor environments.
