Short essay on the Areas of computer applications

“A computer is a device that can perform a variety of operations and produce useful results without human intervention”. A computer performs two basic operations:

1. Arithmetical functions, i.e., additions, subtractions, multiplications and divisions and

2. Processing functions, i.e., compare, sort and select the data entered, store and on command present them in the desired form. The speed and accuracy are the most important advantages of computers.

The uses of computers are so diverse that they can not be easily classified. Following are major categories of applications of computers

6. Industries.

7. Transportation and Communications.

8. Engineering and Scientific.
