Emerson says that science surpasses the miracle of mythology. Truth has always been stranger than fiction. But in no department of human knowledge has this been more so as at the case of science because it penetrates the constitution of nature and has unfolded the mystery.

Science has mapped the whole universe revealing the wonderful harmony that runs through the works of God. The recent discovery of the Black-hole has added to human knowledge. It is believed that all planets and stars will change themselves into black holes and the universe will be reorganized. Apart from it science has finished superstitions and old faith by giving us some new miracles.

Science has brought the improvements within the realm of the possible. Heart can be transplanted. Artificial hands, feet, kidney, ctc., are fitted in the human body. The work of human brain is 4one with the help of calculators and computers. It has helped man to land upon the moon and to probe the Mars. Satellite can help in forecasting weather and in transmitting the messages to the farthest possible places.

Science has reduced the labor of man. Televisions, cinemas, radios and various other things have provided all the enjoyment of life On the other hand by pressing buttons the seeds can be bombarded, water can be boiled and the atmosphere can be polluted. Science has taken us into the bowels of earth and in the sky and space. It helps us to beat others, to live, to work and even to die. It has given some miracles which seem to be quite strange. There was a time when we used to talk of Marconi for his wireless and many other scientists for other great inventions.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

Now-a-days we talk of Einstein and we talk of other great scientists who have changed the very face of earth. Some people think that there is nothing special about science. Huxley, the great worshipper of science, once said, “science is simply common sense at its best that is rigidly accurate in observations and merciless to fallacy in logic”. It changes appearances to facts and reveals to us the things as they are.

But the generalizations which science give are rare. Charles Mackey has praised science in one of his poems. He says that earth seems to be old and the cold science discovered “that the world was young” and taught a language to its lisping tongue. Science disclosed future “made old knowledge pale before the new”. In other words science has its own miracles. Fairy tales of science are more interesting than anything else.
