Bhiwani district came into existence on July 22nd, 1972 and is named after the Administrative city Bhiwani. Bhiwani is situated between 28.19 deg. & 29.05 deg. North latitude and 75.26 deg. and 76.28 deg. East Longitude. Bhiwani district has been divided into 4 sub-divisions, 6 Tehsils, 2 sub-Tehsils, 9 Blocks and 442 Villages. District has 7 Vidhan Sabha area (Bhiwani, Dadri, Loharu, Badara, Bavani Khera, Tosham, Mundhal Kurd) and 1 Constituency area. Useful agricultural land is 411976 lac hectares.

The district headquarters is situated in Bhiwani town. Other smaller towns are Charkhi Dadri, Loharu, Bawani Khera and Tosham. The total area of Bhiwani district is 4,778 square kilometres and its population is 14,24,554. Bhiwani district has many places worth visiting. Among these, are the Star Building, Loharu Fort, Tosham Hill etc.

An archaeological site, called the Naurangabad Mound, at a distance of 10 km from Bhiwani town, is now being excavated.
