What are the clinical features of gonorrhoea in male/females?

Clinical features and symptoms in male. The symptoms usually appear, between three days to two weeks after the sexual contact. The severity of the symptoms depends on the extent of the infection and the resistance of the individual. In man, dysuria is the first symptom. Patient complains of itching and burning at the tip of the penis.

This is usually accompanied by frequent urination. The discharge from the urethar is first mucoid and yel­lowish in colour (gleet). The discharge from the urethra also becomes purulent. As a result of infection there may be other complications also like the infection of prostatic glands, damage to the heart valves, arthritis etc.

In about 50% of the affected individuals symptoms may not appear. When symptoms appear, they include burning sensation on urination, yellow vaginal discharge, dysuria, frequency of micturition etc. Secondary symptoms include backache. In a few patients vulvitis may develop due to profuse discharge. The compli­cations due to infection include endometritis, pelvic pertionitis and pelvic abscess.
