(i) A consumers’ cooperative store is a voluntary association of consumers registered under the Cooperative Societies Act.

(ii) It is owned and managed by consumers.

(iii) It deals in articles of daily use.

(iv) It purchases goods from producers and wholesalers

(v) It sells goods to members and may also sell to non-members.

(vi) Every member has one vote irrespective of his share holding.

(vii) Profits of the store are distributed among members in proportion to their purchases. A part of the profits is spent on general welfare measures.

(viii) Goods are sold generally on cash and carry basis.
