Very Important Instruction while working in the dispensing laboratory

Important instruction while working in the dispensing laboratory are given below:

(a) Laboratory should be neat and clean.

(b) All chemicals and other articles should be in proper place.

(c) Electric points, washing and weighing area and working table should be arranged properly to reduce the risk of mistakes, errors and contamination.

(d) Protect the clothes and reduce contamination of dispensed product using neat and clean white overcoat (apron), gloves, napkin etc.

(e) Before dispensing, read the prescription carefully. In case of any doubt in understanding clarify the confusion with the prescriber.

(f) For formula and quantity consult Pharmacopoeia or other reference book (do not apply any trial and error method or approximate quantity).

(g) Following things are also checked – dose, number of doses prescribed, incompatibility.

(h) Check the calculation of different ingredients used in prescription.

(i) Selection of containers for dispensing.

(j) Weighing, mixing, and other steps performed as per the process.

(k) Label should have all information regarding product, instruction for use and storage.

(l) Paste the label on the container properly.

(m) Wrap the container according to suitability of transportation.

(n) Check the finished product before delivery to the patient or consumer.

(o) Ensure that the patient or his representative has followed the instructions regarding

mode of administration and storage of the prescription.

(p) Maintain the record of the prescription having all basic requirements.
