The UN adopted the declaration in December 1948, proclaiming it as a common standard of achievement for all people and all nationals. According to it, everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person, no one shall be held in slavery: no one shall be arbitrarily arrested, there shall be equality before law; freedom of movement shall be guaranteed and right of association and social security shall be recognised. It is a statement of moral standards which every civilised country is expected to accept.

This has led to the establishment of National Human Rights Commission in many countries and Amnesty International is also keeping close watch on those countries who violates the Human Rights of the people. Accordingly pressure is created to respect the rights of the people, by way of sanction etc. So, In this way UN is promoting and protecting the Human Rights.
