The birthday of Rama, the seventh incarnation of Vishnu, is celebrated on Ram Navmi. Among the Vaishnavas, the festival begins on the first day of the month of Chaitra and continues till the 9th on which day at noon, Rama was born.
The main features of the festival are organising congregations and regaling them with stories of exploits of the great Hindu hero who conquered Ceylon and killed Ravana.
