The scope of physical education is vast and the problems included there in are baffling indeed. The problems that generally stare in the face of effective organization of physical activities in the schools are lack of adequately qualified physical education personnel, lack of facilities for Medical examination, lack ‘of properly developed playground, an academically loaded curriculum, lack of time; lack of funds, lack of provision of mid-day meals and the practice of double shifts.

In every school there should be an organizer of games and sports who may be designated as P. E. T, or Games Superintendent. The person should be appointed on ground of aptitude and interest in games. Though P. E. T. will be in sole charge of the organization of physical activities in the school yet other teachers should be assigned duties to assist the P. E. T. in his work.

A committee consisting of representatives of students, few teachers and the P. E. T. should be formed to plan and organize games and sports. In fact, the play ground is the uncovered school and boys receive a training there which is not less important.

For imparting instruction in the class room a sound classification is essential. Similarly for providing games to boys according to their interests and capacities, proper groups of boys are to be made. All boys cannot play all games and all of them are not interested in the same game, Grouping of boys should be made according to their age, physique, interest and capacity.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

As for efficient working in class room a systematic time-table is essential. So also for the efficient organization of games a weekly time-table of games for all students is essential. Variety of games should be introduced for providing opportunities to the students to participate in different types of games.

A comprehensive programme of physic medical test of the school children should be organized for the assessment of their health hygiene. Health instruction should be included in any well organized programme of health and physical education. If midday meal will not be arranged for the children those who remain in the school for a long time, shall have to remain with empty stomach which is unwholesome.

Necessary steps should be taken to eradicate such practice. Physical activities can be educative when there is sufficient time for them. But the overcrowded curriculum of the school and double shift in schools stand on the way of effective organization of physical activities.
