Organisation chart is a pictorial presentation of the organisation structure and the functional relationship of the personnel and the departments in the organisation. According to Ernest Dale, “An organisation chart is a diagram of the formal authority structure.” It depicts the relations of individuals and the various departments.

In brief, an organisational chart depicts the chief executive, the line of authority and responsibility, the supervisor —subordinate relationship and the span of control by the supervisors. Organisation chart contains information on the structure of the organisation, flow of authority, spheres of responsibility, line and staff relations and name and status of personnel in different positions. There are various types of organisation chart like personal organisation chart, functional organisation chart and master organisation chart.
