What are the Characteristics of Torpedo?

The characteristics of Torpedo are given below:

1. It is a marine fish, found at a depth of 4-50 fathoms on the sea bottom.

2. It is carnivorous.

3. Marine and commonly known as Electric ray.

4. Body is dorsoventrally flattened and disc shaped.

5. Pectoral fin joined with head.

6. Skin is smooth without scale.

7. A pair of ees and spirals are present.

8. A pair of electric organs are present on either side of the head.

9. Electric organs are capable of giving powerful electric shock which is used to paralyse the prey and also serve as defensive organ.
