Blast of rice is controlled by three primary approaches.

(i) Cultural practices- Field sanitation, removal of weeds from the field and early plantation shows less disease incidence.

(ii) Use of fungicides- Seed treatment with organomercurial fungicides like Agrosan GN is quite effective in eliminating seed-borne inoculums. More recent systematic fungicides like pyroquilon, hexaconazole and antibiotic Blasticidin-Surrounded are found to be highly effective.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

(iii) Resistant varieties- Cultivation of resistant varieties of rice like Co4, Co25, TKM-1, Kamala, etc. offer protection against the disease.
