Centrosome is a slightly differentiated region of cytoplasm close to the nucleus of animal cells. It has usually two central granules called centrioles. Centrioles are hollow, cylindrical structures which are made of microtubules arranged in a specific manner in two main bundles, one at a right angle to the other.

Functions

1. At the time of cell division, cengtrioles move to the poles and form spindle fibres which help in the movement of chromatids in the daughter cells.

2. They help in the formation of cilia and flagella of the cells.
